Padumuttara Buddha is the thirteenth in the List of the 28 Buddhas. His life parallels that of Gotama Buddha except that he was allegedly assisted by different people and his Bodhi Tree was a salala. He lived for ten thousand years. Many of Gotama Buddha's disciples were said to have begun their desire for monkhood in the time of Padumuttara Buddha.

Since there is no archeological evidence for the existence of Padmuttara, he is placed in the Legendary figures category. But for Theravada Buddhists and most other Buddhists, Padmuttara was a real person who became a Buddha.
