The Jatakamala, ‘Garland of Jàtakas’ is a retelling of thirty four Jàtaka stories written in Sanskrit in the 4th century CE by the monk âryasåra. It is widely considered one of the greatest masterpieces of Sanskrit literature. Many of the carved panels on the great ståpa of Borobudur on the island of Java in Indonesia depict scenes from the Jàtakamàlà.
