Five causes of dreams:

1. Physical stress

2. Psychological irritability

3. Spirits

4. Mental clarity

5. Prophetic dreams

(Note that again, in the timelessness of the Buddha’s teachings, modern psychologists would concur with this teaching, especially numbers 1, 2, 4, and 5 above. A significant part of modern psychotherapy involves analyzing dreams for suppressed problems, phobias, and possible sub-conscious desires.)
