San Fran Dhammaram Temple
San Fran Dhammaram Temple is the only Thai Temple in the City of San Francisco.
San Fran Dhammaram Temple was established in June 24, 2002 by Venerable Acariya Thoon Kippapanyo. Ratima Chintarod, a staunch follower of Acariya Thoon, provided a location that would serve as a meeting place, community for discussion of dhamma, and institution for the dispensation of Buddhism. San Fran Dhammaram Temple opened its doors to the public on September 4, 2002. The temple's opening ceremonies were held by Venerable Acariya Thoon Kippapanyo and Venerable Praraj Wachirasophon of Wat Buddharatanaram in Texas.
Acariya Thoon first visited America in 1987. On that visit, as well during many subsequent trips to the US, he had been invited to teach dhamma. During that time, there weren't any definite locations established for the meeting, education, and communal discussion of dhamma. As a consequence, Acariya Thoon's followers deliberated and decided to establish a central location that would facilitate these purposes. Thus, the San Francisco Thai Temple was founded.
The temple's attendance has been growing rapidly. To accommodate this expansion, San Fran Dhammaram Temple will relocate to a new property in the Sunset district late 2008.
