Sikkim is an Indian state bordered on three sides by Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan. In 1975 its semi-independence ended when it was absorbed into India. The native people of Sikkim, the Lepcha, are mainly followers of Vajrayana Buddhism. Large scale immigration from Nepal has now made the Buddhists a minority within Sikkim.
